The use of anabolic steroids has been banned for those bodybuilders who wish to enter professional competitions. In most countries they are only accessible by prescription. In the US it has been made illegal to prescribe them for non- therapeutic purposes. In fact AAS have now become controlled drugs in the US, Canda, Britain and many other countries of the world.
 
Abuse of anabolic steroids can lead to liver disease, blood clots, higher risk of heart attacks and strokes, changes in behaviour i.e becoming more aggressive and irritable. In extreme cases they could also permanently stunt the growth of adolescents.
